Why LinkedIn Posts Use โFakeโ Bold
LinkedIn doesnโt let you format normal posts or your profile. Thereโs no bold button, no italics, no headings. So when you see a post with a bold first line or a heading in the middle, the writer used Unicode letters: ๐๐ผ๐น๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ for punch, ๐๐ต๐ข๐ญ๐ช๐ค for quotes, and sometimes Uฬฒnฬฒdฬฒeฬฒrฬฒlฬฒiฬฒnฬฒeฬฒ for emphasis.
Bold Sans is the one to start with. It sits closest to LinkedInโs own typeface, so it looks like real formatting instead of a decoration.
Where to Use It (and Where Not To)
| Where | Fancy text? | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| First line of a post | Yes | The hook people see before โโฆsee moreโ. |
| Headings inside a long post | Yes | Breaks up text so people keep reading. |
| About section headers | Yes | E.g. ๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ ๐ฑ๐ผ, ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ. |
| Headline | Partly | Style a separator or one word, keep the job title plain. |
| Your name | No | Against LinkedInโs rules and bad for search. |
| Skills, job titles, companies | No | Search needs plain letters to find you. |
A Simple Post Structure That Works
- Bold hook: one short line in Bold Sans, under about 200 characters, so it shows fully before โsee moreโ.
- Plain body: short paragraphs in normal text. This is what LinkedIn reads and recommends.
- Bold mini-headings if the post is long, like ๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐ด and ๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐โ๐ฑ ๐ฑ๐ผ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ณ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐น๐.
- Plain call to action at the end, so itโs easy to read on every device.
The Search Problem, Explained
To a computer, ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด and Marketing are two different words. If your headline says ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟ, a recruiter searching for โmarketing managerโ may never see you. Thatโs why the rule of thumb is simple: anything you want to be found for stays plain. Style the decoration around it, not the words themselves.
Tips
- One bold phrase per paragraph at most. More than that reads like shouting.
- Avoid script and gothic styles here; they look out of place in a professional feed.
- Never put dates, links or contact details only in a fancy style.
